Dr. Joel Rosenthal presented the 38th annual Elizabeth Dyer Excellence in Teaching Awards to seven outstanding Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate student teaching assistants at the John C. Wriston Memorial Lecturership on March 2, 2020. The graduate students honored were Mr. Marcel Achtenhagen, Ms. Carly Byron, Ms. Amanda Childs, Ms. Samantha Doble, Ms. Megan Doleschal, Ms. Johanna Herman and Mr. Thabiso Kunene. Marcel Achtenhagen received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor William Chain. Marcel served as a TA in CHEM108 during the spring of 2019. Carly Byron received her undergraduate degree from Eastern Nazarene University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Andrew Teplyakov. Carly served as a TA in CHEM443 during the fall of 2018 and CHEM444 during the spring of 2019. Amanda Childs received her undergraduate degree from Cedar Crest College and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Svilen Bobev. Amanda served as a TA in CHEM103 during the fall of 2018 and CHEM357/457 in the spring of 2019. Samantha Doble received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. with Professor Lars Gundlach. Samantha served as a TA in CHEM103 in the fall of 2018 and CHEM104 and 104H in the spring of 2019. Megan Doleschal received her undergraduate degree from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Zhihao Zhuang. Megan served as a TA in CHEM216 in the fall of 2018 and the spring of 2019. Johanna Herman received her undergraduate degree from Delaware Valley University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Sharon Neal. Johanna served as a TA in CHEM103H in the fall of 2018 and CHEM104H in the spring of 2019. Thabiso Kunene received his undergraduate degree from Colby College and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. with Professor Joel Rosenthal. Thabiso served as a TA in CHEM651 in the fall of 2018.
The Dyer Award honors the memory of Professor Elizabeth Dyer, a member of the Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty from 1933-1971. This award has been given to outstanding teaching assistants since 1981.
