Dr. Brian Bahnson presented the 36th annual Elizabeth Dyer Excellence in Teaching Awards to four outstanding Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate student teaching assistants at the John C. Wriston Memorial Lecturership on November 13, 2017. The graduate students honored were Siavash Mashayekh, Ornella Sathoud, Pengcheng Wu and Katerina Korch. Siavash Mashayekh received his Pharm.D. degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Catherine Grimes. Siavash served as a TA in CHEM-342, Introduction to Biochemistry during the spring of 2017. Ornella Sathoud received her bachelor's degree from Western Connecticut State University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Karl Booksh. Ornella served as a TA in CHEM-115, Introduction to Chemical Sciences in the fall of 2016 and CHEM438, Instrumental Methods during the spring of 2017. Pengcheng Wu received his bachelor's degree from Nanjing University of Technology and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Klaus Theopold. Pengcheng served as a TA in CHEM-104, General Chemistry, during the fall of 2016 and CHEM101, General Chemistry, during the spring of 2017. Katerina Korch received her bachelor's degree from Juniata College and her master's degree from California Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Donald Watson. Katerina served as a TA in CHEM325, Organic Chemistry Laboratory I in the fall of 2016 and CHEM332, Organic Chemistry for majors in the spring of 2017.
The Dyer Award honors the memory of Professor Elizabeth Dyer, a member of the Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty from 1933-1971. This award has been given to outstanding teaching assistants since 1981.
