Langu​​age, group, and other requirements for the B.A. as listed in the Undergraduate Catalog, i.e., foreign language through the XXXX-107 level, 9 credits each in Groups A, B, and C, multicultural course, and second writing course.

In addition to the completion of the degree requirements, teacher candidates must pass an externally reviewed performance assessment according to state of Delaware guidelines to receive the University’s institutional recommendation for certification.

T​​OTAL: Minimum of 124 credits

  1. SCEN 491​​ Teaching Science in the Secondary School is taken the semester prior to student teaching. All teacher education candidates must meet established criteria for admission into upper-division professional education study.  These criteria include: minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5; minimum grade point average of 2.75 in chemistry; successful completion (grade of C- or better) of prerequisite courses and field experiences; and passing scores, as established by the state of Delaware, on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test. Students must pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test before enrolling in SCEN 491 and attain a passing score on the Praxis Subject assessment according to state of Delaware guidelines before enrolling in EDUC 400. (PLEASE NOTE: Candidates who earn ACT or SAT verbal and/or mathematics scores at or above the levels established by the state of Delaware are exempt from taking the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests in reading and/or mathematics, respectively. All candidates must take the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test in writing).
  2. A minimum grade of C is required in this course to qualify for student teaching.
  3. Student teaching is offered only in the spring semester.  EDUC 400 Student Teaching fulfills the Discovery Learning requirement.
